Fuel Cock
A fuel cock, also known as a fuel Tap or petcock, is a component in a vehicle or machinery that controls the flow of fuel from the fuel tank to the engine. It's commonly found in motorcycles, small engines, and some older cars.
Fuel taps usually have several positions:
- On: This position allows fuel to flow from the tank to the engine, enabling the vehicle to run.
- Off: This position stops the fuel flow, preventing any fuel from reaching the engine. It’s often used when the vehicle is not in use to prevent leaks or when working on the engine.
- Reserve: Some fuel taps have a reserve position. When the fuel level in the tank is low and the main supply is exhausted, switching to this position allows access to a small amount of fuel that’s typically reserved in the tank. It serves as a warning that the fuel is running low, giving the rider or driver some extra miles to reach a fuel station.
These taps can be manually operated, using a lever or knob, to regulate the fuel flow, ensuring efficient engine operation and preventing fuel leakage when not in use
